fans

Brenden Shanahan signed with the New Jersey Devils halfway through the NHL season for a one year deal for $800,000. He is a future hall of famer, has won Stanley Cups and is still a very effective goal scorer.

Meanwhile my team, the New York Rangers, has been struggling to score anything at all over the last month or so (other than the victory tonight). That has confused, annoyed and angered me to no end.

Why should I even care though? Why even be a fan of any sports team? Fans cheer for a group of people making at least six figures (a lot of them making seven and a handful making eight) night in and night out.

Cheering for a sports team makes no sense if you think about it. Sports teams are corporations simply out to make money. They don't care about anything other than making money, yet they can get thousands of people to support them. Beyond that, people become emotionally attached to teams, the players and even the arena. They spend hundreds to watch them play, wear the names of players on their backs on clothing that may cost just as much. The team becomes as much a part of someone's life as their friends, family and career.

Doesn't make much sense, but in the end it doesn't have to. You live and die by your team. You want to lift them up like champions as much as they want to lift us up by being champions. And through everything that happens, they're still your team.

Oh and fans themselves can be fun to watch sometimes. Hell some have more skill than most players out there...
